Luke 11:1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."
Here, Jesus' disciples are asking Jesus to teach them how to pray. Then Jesus taught them one by one, and this is the "Lord's prayer" we often pray.
Matthew 6:9 "This, then, is how you should pray: "'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
The first is "Our Father in heaven". Jesus begins his prayer with calling His Father, God. This is the true pray, to talk to God, not talking by myself. Then God hears every voice from us. This is how we start prayer usually. Secondly, "hallowed be your name" should follow. This is we praise God, and testify that He is the most high.
6:10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
This is the third one. We should pray for the hope of God, His dream. What is His hope? This is to fulfill His kingdom on this earth. We can easily ask to give this or that, but first, we need to seek His dream more than any other things.
6:11 Give us today our daily bread.
At forth, we also should ask him our needs, such like wisdom, faith, even materials. It is to surrender to God fully who is always taking care of us so specifically.
6:12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
When we pray, we should confess our sin honestly and seek forgiveness. Also, we need to remember that we can be clothed by His mercy, when we show mercy to others with the heart of love.
6:13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'
Here, the "temptation" means the test from Satan. Satan always tries to make us become far from God. However, we can overcome it through prayer, and even if we stumble, we can stand firmly again by God's help. When we pray, God must protect us and support us.
"For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen."
Lastly, we worship God, and glorify His name. Let us remember the deep meaning of each topics of prayer, and seek exactly what we should seek before God.
Jeremiah 29:12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
